Cooking for College Students: A Begginer's Guide by Patrick C. Arenson (October 2009)

The idea behind Cooking for College Students came to me one afternoon during summer vacation, a couple days after my sister had returned home from college.

          “I think you should write me a cookbook,” she told me suddenly. 

          “What?” I asked. I was completely blindsided.

          I wanted to laugh at her because my sister was perhaps the last person I could ever imagine toiling over a hot stove. She hated doing dishes, let alone cooking, and had constantly reminded me of it ever since we were kids. She couldn’t see the point behind it when, after all, she could have me cook for her anytime she was hungry.

          “I want you to teach me how to cook,” she continued, “and then we can write it down so I can make it when I go back to school.” She genuinely looked like she was expecting something hardbound and gift wrapped for her at the end of the summer. Is she crazy?

          “Why?”
